Apparent authority

Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-000533

The power of an agent to act on behalf of a principal, even if the principal has not expressly granted that authority, because the principal's conduct leads a third party to reasonably believe the agent has such authority. This arises from the principal's manifestations to the third party, not from the agent's representations. It protects third parties who reasonably rely on the agent's perceived power.
