Birthright citizenship

The legal principle that a person's citizenship is determined by their place of birth, regardless of the citizenship of their parents. This concept is enshrined in the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which states that all persons born or naturalized in the U.S. are citizens. Many countries, particularly in the Americas, follow this principle.
