Competent witness

An individual legally qualified to testify in court, possessing the mental capacity to observe, recall, and recount events, and understanding the obligation to tell the truth. Most jurisdictions presume witnesses are competent unless a specific disqualification is proven. Children or individuals with severe mental impairments may be deemed incompetent under certain circumstances.
