Crime of passion

A criminal act, often homicide, committed under circumstances of extreme emotional disturbance, such as intense anger, jealousy, or fear. This defense does not negate guilt but can reduce the charge from murder to a lesser offense like voluntary manslaughter. The emotional state must be sudden and overwhelming, provoked by an adequate cause.
