Voluntary manslaughter

Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-005183

The unlawful killing of another person without malice aforethought, committed in the heat of passion after adequate provocation or during a sudden quarrel. The killer typically intends to kill or seriously injure, but the provocation reduces the offense from murder, and the passion must not have had time to cool. Penalties are lighter than for murder, though still serious.
