Criminal syndicalism laws

State laws enacted in the early 20th century that prohibited advocating for or practicing doctrines that promoted crime, sabotage, violence, or unlawful methods of terrorism as a means of accomplishing industrial or political reform. These laws were often used to suppress labor unions and political dissidents. Many were later challenged on First Amendment grounds.
