Power of attorney

A legal document that grants one person (the agent or attorney-in-fact) the authority to act on behalf of another person (the principal) in specified matters. This authority can be broad or limited to particular decisions, such as financial transactions or medical care. A durable power of attorney remains effective even if the principal becomes incapacitated, unlike a general power of attorney which terminates upon incapacitation.
