Preponderance of the evidence

The standard of proof in civil cases, requiring that the evidence presented by one party is more convincing and probable than the evidence presented by the opposing party. This means that the facts asserted are more likely than not to be true. It is often described as a 51% certainty, a lower threshold than the "beyond a reasonable doubt" standard in criminal law.
