Rational basis test

A standard of judicial review used by courts to assess the constitutionality of a law or government action. To pass this test, the challenged law must be rationally connected to a legitimate state interest. This standard is the most deferential level of scrutiny, applied in cases not involving fundamental rights or suspect classifications, which are subject to stricter review like strict scrutiny.
