Redirect examination

The questioning of a witness by the party who called them, following cross-examination by the opposing party. Its purpose is to clarify ambiguities, explain new matters raised during cross-examination, or rehabilitate the witness's credibility. New topics generally cannot be introduced during redirect examination unless they directly respond to issues raised on cross-examination.
