Redistricting

The process of redrawing electoral district boundaries within a state to reflect population changes identified by the decennial census. This action is undertaken by state legislatures or independent commissions to maintain equal representation. The U.S. Constitution requires redistricting after each census to comply with the principle of one person, one vote.
