Rehabilitation Act of 1973

A federal law in the United States that prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in programs conducted by federal agencies, in programs receiving federal financial assistance, in federal employment, and in the employment practices of federal contractors. This act laid the groundwork for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by requiring federal entities to provide reasonable accommodations. Section 504 of the Act is particularly well-known for its anti-discrimination provisions.
