Shelley v. Kraemer (1948)

A landmark U.S. Supreme Court case that held that state court enforcement of racially restrictive covenants in real property deeds is unconstitutional. The Court ruled that such enforcement constituted state action, violating the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. This decision limited the ability of private parties to use the courts to perpetuate racial segregation.
