Alter shield
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010364
A device used to protect a precipitation gauge from wind effects, which can cause an underestimation of actual rainfall or snowfall. It consists of a series of concentric rings or slats arranged around the gauge opening. This shield reduces turbulence and directs precipitation more accurately into the collector, particularly for solid precipitation.
