Nipher shield
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007540
A wind shield designed to improve the accuracy of precipitation measurements, particularly for snow, by reducing wind-induced errors. It consists of a series of concentric metal rings that surround a precipitation gauge, creating a calm air zone above the collector. This design minimizes the undercatch of solid precipitation in windy conditions.
