Angular spreading

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003513

The lateral spreading of ocean waves in direction as they travel out of the area where the wind generated them and continue as swell. As the waves fan out, the energy in any one direction is spread over a widening arc, so wave height at a given distance is lower than it would be along a single path. The effect is quantified by an angular-spreading factor.
