Autobarotropic

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003714

Describing an atmosphere or fluid in which surfaces of constant pressure (isobaric surfaces) and surfaces of constant density (isosteric surfaces) coincide. In such a state, the density of a fluid parcel depends only on its pressure, and no solenoids are present to generate circulation. This condition is a special case of a barotropic atmosphere and is primarily a theoretical concept used in simplified atmospheric models.
