Coefficient of barotropy
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004474
A measure of the degree to which surfaces of constant pressure intersect surfaces of constant density in a fluid. It quantifies the baroclinicity of the atmosphere, which is a key factor in the generation of atmospheric circulation. A value of zero indicates a barotropic atmosphere where pressure and density surfaces are parallel.
