Blue noise

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003961

A type of signal or spatial pattern whose power spectrum has minimal energy at low frequencies and increasing energy at higher frequencies. In atmospheric science, it describes patterns where elements, such as convective cells, are more evenly distributed than a purely random arrangement, avoiding large-scale clumping. This contrasts with white noise, which has uniform power across all frequencies, and red noise, where power is concentrated at low frequencies.
