Bremsstrahlung
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004029
Electromagnetic radiation generated when a charged particle, such as an electron, is decelerated or deflected upon passing near the strong electric field of an atomic nucleus. This process, also known as braking radiation, produces a continuous spectrum of X-rays. Bremsstrahlung from energetic electrons precipitating into the atmosphere can be detected by high-altitude balloons and satellites.
