Colligative property
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004514
A property of a solution that depends solely on the number of solute particles dissolved in a given amount of solvent, rather than on the identity of the solute particles. In atmospheric science, this concept is relevant to understanding the behavior of water in clouds, where dissolved aerosols act as solutes. Examples include the depression of freezing point and the elevation of boiling point, which influence cloud droplet formation and ice nucleation.
