d'Alembert's paradox

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004848

A classical fluid dynamics paradox stating that in an inviscid, incompressible, steady flow, a body moving through the fluid experiences no drag force. This theoretical result contradicts the observed drag on objects in real fluids. The paradox is resolved by considering the effects of viscosity, turbulence, and boundary layer separation, which are present in actual fluid flows.
