Elevation angle
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005344
The angle between the horizontal plane and the line of sight to an object, measured upwards from the horizon. In radar meteorology, this angle determines the height at which the radar beam samples the atmosphere, affecting the interpretation of precipitation and storm structure. Weather radars typically scan at multiple elevation angles to build a three-dimensional view of atmospheric phenomena.
