Filtered equations
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005572
Prognostic equations in numerical weather prediction that have been modified to remove or suppress high-frequency, meteorologically insignificant waves, such as sound waves or gravity waves. This filtering allows for larger time steps in numerical integration, improving computational efficiency without significantly affecting the forecast of synoptic-scale features. Primitive equations are often filtered to produce balanced models.
