Semi-implicit method

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008791

A numerical integration technique used in atmospheric models to solve prognostic equations, where some terms are treated implicitly and others explicitly. This approach allows for larger time steps than fully explicit methods while maintaining numerical stability, particularly for fast-moving waves like sound waves and gravity waves. It is widely used in operational weather prediction models.
