Geostationary Earth Radiation Budget

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005935

An instrument designed to measure the Earth's radiation budget from a geostationary orbit, providing data on reflected solar radiation and emitted thermal radiation. The Geostationary Earth Radiation Budget (GERB) instrument flies aboard Europe's Meteosat Second Generation satellites, allowing for high temporal resolution observations of a specific region. GERB provides measurements every 15 minutes, capturing the diurnal cycle of radiation which is missed by polar-orbiting instruments.
