Gravity wind
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006047
A local wind system driven by the gravitational force acting on a mass of air that is denser than its surroundings. This density difference often arises from temperature variations, such as cold air pooling on elevated terrain. Katabatic winds, which flow downslope from mountains or glaciers, are a prominent example of a gravity wind.
