Drainage wind
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005130
A type of katabatic wind where cool, dense air flows downslope under the influence of gravity. This phenomenon occurs at night when mountain slopes cool by radiation, chilling the adjacent air, which then drains into the valleys below. These winds are a component of the daily mountain-valley wind circulation system, contrasting with the upslope valley winds that form during the day.
