Hot-film anemometer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006282
An instrument used to measure fluid velocity, particularly in turbulent flows, by sensing the heat loss from a heated element. It consists of a thin, electrically heated conductive film deposited on a non-conducting substrate, such as a quartz rod. The electrical power required to maintain the film at a constant temperature above the fluid temperature is nonlinearly related to the flow speed, following King's law.
