Surfactant film

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009458

A thin layer of surface-active molecules that forms at the interface between two phases, such as air and water. These molecules reduce the surface tension of the liquid, affecting processes like evaporation, wave damping, and the formation of aerosols. In the ocean, natural surfactant films are often composed of organic matter released by marine organisms.
