Hydraulic similarity

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010548

A condition where the flow patterns and forces in a model are proportional to those in a prototype, allowing for the scaling of experimental results. This is achieved when relevant dimensionless parameters, such as the Reynolds number and Froude number, are equal between the model and the prototype. Achieving perfect hydraulic similarity can be challenging due to conflicting scaling requirements.
