Hydroxyl emission
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006358
The emission of light by excited hydroxyl (OH) radicals in the upper atmosphere, particularly in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere. This emission occurs as a result of chemical reactions, such as the recombination of atomic hydrogen and ozone. Hydroxyl airglow is a common phenomenon observed at night and provides information about atmospheric temperature and composition.
