Hygroscopic nucleus
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006376
A microscopic particle in the atmosphere that readily attracts and absorbs water vapor, facilitating the condensation process at relative humidities below 100%. These nuclei, often composed of salts or acids, serve as sites for water droplets to form, playing a role in cloud formation and precipitation. Common examples include sea salt particles and sulfate aerosols.
