Hygroscopic water

Water molecules that are tightly adsorbed onto the surface of soil particles from atmospheric water vapor. This water is held by strong molecular forces and is typically unavailable for plant absorption. It represents the moisture content of soil when it is air-dry but not completely devoid of water.
