Langmuir cells
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006865
Shallow, helical circulation patterns that form in the upper layers of lakes and oceans, aligned with the wind direction. These cells consist of alternating convergences and divergences, which can concentrate floating debris, foam, and plankton into visible streaks on the water surface. They are driven by the interaction of wind stress and surface waves.
