Magnetron
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007092
A high-power vacuum tube that generates microwaves using the interaction of a strong magnetic field with a stream of electrons. In meteorology, magnetrons are a key component in radar systems, where they produce the high-frequency electromagnetic pulses used to detect precipitation and other atmospheric phenomena. They operate at frequencies typically in the S-band or C-band.
