Mediterranean lenses

Large, lens-shaped, rotating eddies of warm and highly saline water originating from the Mediterranean Sea outflow into the Atlantic Ocean. These coherent water masses, also called Meddies, can persist for years and travel thousands of kilometers westward at intermediate depths. They transport heat and salt, influencing the thermohaline structure of the North Atlantic Ocean.
