Mediterranean Water

A distinct water mass characterized by its relatively high temperature and salinity, formed in the Mediterranean Sea due to strong evaporation. This water exits the Mediterranean through the Strait of Gibraltar and spreads into the Atlantic Ocean at intermediate depths. It forms coherent eddies, known as Meddies, and influences the thermohaline circulation of the North Atlantic.
