Mediterranean Deep Water

A dense, warm, and salty water mass formed in the eastern Mediterranean Sea through intense evaporation and cooling during winter. This water sinks and flows westward through the Strait of Sicily into the western Mediterranean, eventually exiting into the Atlantic Ocean through the Strait of Gibraltar. It contributes significantly to the global thermohaline circulation.
