Membership function

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007201

A curve or mathematical function that defines how each point in an input space is mapped to a membership value, or degree of membership, between 0 and 1 in a fuzzy set. In meteorology, it is used in fuzzy logic models for tasks like weather forecasting or classifying atmospheric phenomena where categories are not sharply defined. For example, a membership function can describe the degree to which a temperature of 15°C is considered 'cool' versus 'mild'.
