Optical Transient Detector

A space-based sensor designed to detect and locate lightning flashes during both day and night. It was flown on the OrbView-1 satellite and provided valuable data on the global distribution and frequency of lightning. The instrument used a staring imager to observe a specific region of the Earth for rapid changes in light intensity.
