The total weight of instruments, equipment, and other useful cargo carried by an atmospheric sounding device, such as a weather balloon, rocket, or aircraft. This includes sensors for measuring atmospheric parameters, communication systems, and data recorders. The payload capacity limits the types and number of instruments that can be deployed.
