Balloon

An unpowered, lighter-than-air aircraft used in meteorology to carry instruments aloft for atmospheric measurements. Weather balloons, typically filled with hydrogen or helium, ascend through the atmosphere, transmitting data on temperature, humidity, pressure, and wind speed and direction. Radiosondes are the primary instruments carried by these balloons.
