Tethered balloon
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009565
An uncrewed balloon anchored to the ground by a cable, used for atmospheric research and meteorological measurements at different altitudes. These platforms carry scientific instruments, such as radiosondes or specialized sensors, to collect data on temperature, humidity, wind speed, and atmospheric composition. They provide continuous vertical profiles of the lower atmosphere, typically up to a few kilometers above the surface.
