Wiresonde
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010291
An atmospheric instrument package that is raised and lowered through the lower atmosphere on a tethered cable, typically attached to a balloon or tower. It measures meteorological variables such as temperature, humidity, and wind speed at high vertical resolution. Unlike a free-rising radiosonde, a wiresonde can take repeated soundings of the same column of air over time, providing detailed data on the atmospheric boundary layer.
