Potential drop
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008078
The difference in electrical potential between two points in the atmosphere, often measured vertically from the ground upwards. This gradient drives the flow of charge and is a key factor in atmospheric electricity and lightning formation. The fair-weather atmospheric potential gradient near the surface is approximately 100-150 volts per meter.
