Pyranometer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008219
An instrument designed to measure the total solar radiation incident on a horizontal surface from a hemispherical field of view. It typically consists of a thermopile sensor covered by one or two transparent glass domes that protect it from the elements while allowing shortwave radiation to pass through. These devices are widely used in meteorology, climatology, and solar energy applications to quantify global horizontal irradiance.
