Pyrolysis
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008227
The thermochemical decomposition of organic material at elevated temperatures in the absence of oxygen. This process breaks down complex molecules into simpler ones, producing gases, liquids, and a solid residue. In atmospheric science, it can occur during the combustion of biomass or waste, releasing specific aerosols and trace gases into the air.
