Schmidt number
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008700
A dimensionless quantity that relates the momentum diffusivity (kinematic viscosity) to the mass diffusivity of a fluid. It is used to characterize fluid flows where both momentum and mass transfer are occurring, such as in the dispersion of pollutants in the atmosphere. A high Schmidt number indicates that momentum diffuses more rapidly than mass, while a low number suggests the opposite.
