Scorer parameter

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008705

A dimensionless quantity used in atmospheric dynamics to characterize the stability of a stratified atmosphere to vertical displacements and the potential for lee wave formation. It involves the Brunt-Väisälä frequency, which represents static stability, and the vertical shear of the horizontal wind. A positive Scorer parameter indicates conditions favorable for the generation of mountain waves downstream of topography.
